The history of Nordic Light Krill & Fish Oil
Founder Arild Karlsen comes from a fishing family, with a father who was a skipper and fisherman, as were his parents. Arild’s family had their own vessel which operated on the Norwegian coast, the Barents Sea, the Hopen field and Svalbard.
As a 15-year-old, Arild stood on deck as a youngster (first time). By the time he turned 21, he was a mate and skipper.
Arild later bought out the fishing boat trawler Kvaløyfjord from the family shipping company, which was then named Kvaløyfjord II, but he was still with the family shipping company when the new trawler “Kvaløyford” arrived. After Arild bought out the vessel from his family shipping company, he continued to buy and sell more vessels.
In 2008 he sold the shipping company. He used the money to start a company in the food industry. The goal was to create a quality product that could help people to have a better quality of life if they are struggling, for example, with joint problems etc…. Arild himself has problems swallowing large capsules, so he wanted to make highly concentrated fish oil so that the capsules could be small and easy to swallow. In addition, the capsule should be red like the heart, and could be health promoting.
Production started with krill oil from Canada, until Arild discovered that the Norwegian company Aker Biomarine had the best krill oil that is now in the capsule.
Arild got to know the company well and especially a researcher from the University of Tromsø who told us that there is a lot of good in Krill Oil if we mixed it with fish oil we could get a good effect. After Arild had said that he would not use liver oil in his capsules. Therefore, they decided to obtain Omega-3 from the fish meat in fatty fish and mix it with the krill oil, which is dark red – almost black. When Arild mixed fish oil from the fish meat with krill oil, they finally got a red color which is our heart color so that he had finally got his red color on the capsule.
Based on the researcher’s deep knowledge of how fatty acids from marine oils can help people establish, develop and maintain good health, the company Arctic Light Products decided to offer the market a unique blend of highly concentrated fish oil from fish meat, and mixed it with krill oil. The researcher was skeptical about how much this product cost to produce, but Arild was determined to work from the heart, and offer the product at market price – to help as many people as possible who have health problems to a better health and quality of life.
The product became: Nordic Light Krill & Fish oil.
In 2009, the first production was ready, and Arild ate the product himself. The product has been developed in close collaboration with his wife, who he thought should also try the product.
The wife argued that we eat fish 3 to 5 times a week, and that this was not necessary, but after seeing Arild’s energy and vigilance, the wife said: maybe I should try it myself. The result was that she no longer had pain in the joints in her fingers and her doctor confirmed that this product could have a positive effect on painful joints.
Arild receives mostly positive feedback on his product, but he particularly remembers a lady who bought the product in 2010 and who is still a customer, from her he received his first negative feedback saying: “I wake up an hour earlier in the morning, I wish not that, but I get one more hour of my life”!
Enthusiastic subscribers have been regular customers since 2010. Many of them confirm a strong feeling of overall better well-being and the feeling of more energy, and continue to buy the product.
